FAQ’s
What is the dress
code for students?
AMS students are required to wear Spirit Wear. Details can be found under the For
Students tab.
Do students have a
locker?
Yes, all students are issued a locker and lock. Students are responsible for the contents
of their locker at all times. We
do not allow students to bring their own locks from home.
What is the academic
schedule?
All students will have a Reading/Language Arts, Science,
Math, and Social Studies class, as well as Health/PE and an additional elective
class. Except for Band, students
do not get to choose their elective classes. The school day begins at 7:50 and ends at 2:45.
How can I find out my
child’s bus route?
We can provide bus route information at our open house in
August. Further questions may be
directed to our assistant principal.
How do I pay for
lunch and breakfast?
A school lunch costs $2.50 ($0.40 reduced) and breakfast
costs $1.25 ($0.30 reduced). Students may prepay (recommended) or pay
on a daily basis. Free and reduced
lunch forms are available at the beginning of the school year, or upon
enrollment at AMS.
How can I find out
what supplies my child will need?
Grade level supply lists are available on the homepage.
What rules should I
expect?
AMS students are expected to follow the Stanly County
Schools Code of Conduct, which is given to students at the beginning of the
year, or upon enrollment at AMS.
How can I get
involved?
PTO meetings are held every 9 weeks. At these meetings, we will highlight
students’ achievements, and provide a short parent workshop about various
topics. If you are
interested in getting involved in our PTO or in other ways, talk to your child’s
homeroom teacher.
How do I contact my
child’s teachers?
You may call the school at 704-982-5480, email (addresses
available on each teacher’s webpage), or send a note. Get involved early and ask questions if
you have concerns.
Can my child
participate in sports?
7th and 8th grade students must be
academically eligible to participate. Those who plan to try out for any athletic team must
have a current physical examination on file with the school. We offer girls’ volleyball, basketball,
softball, and cheerleading. For boys, we offer football, basketball, wrestling,
and baseball. We also have co-ed tennis
and soccer teams. More information
is available under the Sports tab.
How will I know if my
child has homework?
All students are issued an agenda that they should use to
write down their assignments daily.
It is a good idea for parents to check the agenda on a daily basis. Some teachers require parent signature
every day!
How do I keep up with
my child’s academic progress?
Report cards are issued every 9 weeks, with midterm progress
reports coming home in the middle of the grading period. If you have questions about your
child’s grades, contact the teacher.
Parent Portal
All parents also have access to Parent Portal, our online grading system, which is updated weekly. A username and password is required and is provided by the school. If you do not know your Parent Portal username and password, please contact the school's data manager.
What extra-curricular
activities are available?
Outside of athletics, we offer an Art Olympics team, Student
Council, Battle of the Books team, National Honor Society, and a Marksmanship
team.
Where can I find the
school calendar?
On the AMS homepage, we will give information about holidays
and workdays, as well as upcoming events.
